Key Card Life Hacks – Do it yourself… or maybe don’t…
As you can imagine we have plenty stories to tell about our customers who try to save money and fix their key cards themselves. We know where they are coming from and understand that sometimes it is tempting to try and fix the problem instead of spending hard earned money.
Unfortunately many of those attempts ends up badly. One of the worse examples we have seen so far was a gentleman who thought that his car wasn’t starting up because of the card reader fault. Without essential knowledge he tried to exchange the card reader, as a result he destroyed the entire middle panel – it was a 2006 Renault Megane. He didn’t know how to detach the panel to gain access to the card reader so he decided to use force solution… It wasn’t the best idea to say the least. The panel snapped in the middle, hurt his hand so badly that he had to be taken to hospital and have stiches. Needless to say that the issue wasn’t with the card reader but the key card…
Many of our customers think they can fix their key cards themselves simply because they know how to weld things together. Unfortunately it is not as easy as it may sound. The inside of the key card is very fragile and knowledge is essential when attempting fixing it. In most cases unfortunately attempted fix ends up with the key card being totally destroyed. What I can say is that when you will be considering fixing your key card yourself, unlock the car doors first, this way when you will fail you will at least won’t have to pay extra for unlocking your or in worst case scenario braking one of the windows if your emergency lock is faulty.
Also in our hall of fame there has to be a spot for all-time favourites life hackers… for some reason these are mainly Renault Scenic users. When their key card stops working they believe the best solution for it is to jam a table knife into the card reader to make the key card works. Does it do the trick? Yes, it does, simply because of the fact that the knife jammed into the card reader makes the slot much tighter and when you insert your card the loose elements inside of the key card are forced tightly together and you can start your car. Unfortunately the reality is that you can damage your key card reader, get electrocuted, damage the on board computer and electrical components of your car.
Believe me I am not making fun here of people who try to save some money, I just choose to describe it in a funny way to make it easy to read.
