The mystery of a disappearing key cards
Few weeks ago we have been called out to a lovely lady in Hereford. She lost her Renault Megan key card, the car was locked so we needed to unlock it and programme a new key card for her. Luckily the car was parked on her driveway and was safe and secure. We got the job done quickly and we were invited for a cup of tea. The lady told us the story on how she got back home previous night, left the key card on the kitchen table and how it was the last time she had seen it. She went through the entire house, all of the drawers, shelves, even the garbage. No sign of the key card. While we were chatting she asked us if we could do another key card in case she would misplace the new one again. We programmed another key card for her Renault Megane and soon we were on our way back.
Two or three weeks later we have received a call from the same lady. When I realised I was talking to the same person I started to worry that maybe the key cards were not working properly but she soon explained that she managed somehow to loose both cards again at her home. She was in distress as because of her age she started to think that maybe these are early signs of some sort of illness. I tried to reassure her but to be honest loosing 3 key cards in a matter of 4 weeks seemed impossible.
We scheduled a booking for next day and had the job done quickly. I had a chat with her trying to establish the time frame and recreate her steps and the story was the same each time. She returned from work, placed the key card on the kitchen table, went to change her clothes and to get a cup of tea and by that time the key card was nowhere to be seen. She was living alone so there was no one else she could blame for misplacing the key card. After a chat I was back on the road to another customer but for some reason just couldn’t get this lady out of my head and the mystery of her disappearing key cards was bugging me all the time.
You probably will not believe it but today I received another call from the same lady. I wanted to be funny and answered the phone saying ‘Just don’t tell me you lost another key card please’…. She burst into tears and I felt like a total idiot… I got into my car quickly and drove to Hereford to help her out. This time I was determined to resolve the mystery. It was my Sherlock Holmes moment haha. I asked her if she would mind if I would look for her key cards before programming a new one, she agreed and the search begun. I have placed the key cards I brought with my on the living room table and started to go through the kitchen cabinets in search of previous cards. I could find them and decided to go back to the lounge to start the search there. As I was approaching the living room I have noticed a yorkie pup on the table next to my cards! In a split second he grabbed one of the key cards, jumped of the table and disappeared behind one of the sofas… I followed him, moved the sofa and found 4 Renault Megane key cards, few lighters, a ring, pair of scissors and a bracelet. The little bugger nearly made his owner go nuts just because he liked stealing and hiding things… You can only imagine how relived the lady was. In all fairness I have to admit that it was one of the most amusing key card outcalls ever.
