When should you replace your Renault key card
Many customers ask us when is it best to replace their Renault key card and what are the first signs of key card developing faults. There is no easy answer as some key cards will last months with small faults like intermittent locking problems and some will stop working a week after developing an initial problem.
When your key card is having issues with locking or unlocking your Renault or you often see a message on your dashboard saying ‘card not detected’, you should replace your key card as soon as possible. When your key card can’t connect with on board computer it means that a coil attached to the matrix of your Renault key card is either faulty or the welding attaching it to the matrix have snapped. Either way the problem will not disappear and will only get worse until you won’t be able to start your car at all.
Some of our customers try to fix the key cards themselves and unfortunately in all cases we have heard about so far they fail. The matrix inside the key card is very fragile and were not made to be opened or repaired. You will probably think now that we are trying to fool you as there are services on the Internet which advertise on repairing the key cards. All we can say is the number of horror stories we have heard so far form our customers about repairing services they have tried. From receiving key cards in pieces to never receiving them back… we have heard it all. If your Renault key card can’t be repaired or gets damaged during the process of repairing you need to remember about the fact that probably your car is locked and you have no way of unlocking it unless you still have the emergency key. If you don’t have the key or the emergency lock doesn’t work you will need to brake the window to get inside and to programme a new key card. You can probably see where we are going….
Your first decision in regards to your Renault key card will have it’s consequences and if you don’t want to be stranded from your car for days or weeks and don’t want to inquire additional costs like replacing the window we strongly recommend that you replace your Renault key card as soon as possible after noticing that you are having issues with it.
We would like to also warn you about life hacks available on the Internet. Jamming a fork or a knife into your card reader to start your car is not a good idea and never ends well. You can cause further damage to your key card or in worst case scenario your key card reader will get damaged. Also there is a serious threat that a piece of cutlery jammed into your card reader may cause a sparkle which can cause a fire. So far we have seen two Renaults with fire damage caused by knife stuck into the card reader.
