Spine-chilling Renault Espace Key Card Replacement
Halloween is coming so I decided to share a spooky story with you. It was a late evening and I was already back home when a phone rang. A gentleman has lost his Renault Espace key card and was in a desperate need of a new key card. He was stranded in the middle of nowhere by Gloucester. To be honest I was after a long day of driving around and making replacement Renault key cards for our customers and I wanted to schedule this job for the next day. I have changed my mind when I have listened to this guy’s story…
He took his children earlier in the day for a nice walk in a rocky park just outside Gloucester, they had a great time up to a point when they returned to their car and realised that they have lost the only Renault Espace key card that they had. Lucky enough the key card they have lost was playing up for some time and wasn’t locking the car, so they could get inside but that was it. The gentleman contacted a local so called specialist who promised to come around and prepare a replacement key card for his Renault Espace. Well he did showed up but was unable to programme a new key card. Why? You will surely ask – apparently this particular Espace was out of the ordinary and this “specialist” couldn’t programme it… I will be polite and won’t comment on that. The stranded gentleman was at his wits end when he contacted us. He was alone, in the middle of the woods by night. RAC couldn’t tow his car back home as the parking where he was parked was very difficult to get into and towing was out of the question.
What was I supposed to do? I packed my things and off I went to the rescue hehe. It took me around an hour and a half to get there and another 15 minutes to actually find the parking. I visit Gloucester rather often but I had no idea places likes this exist. In the middle of fields and woods, a quiet little car park surrounded by rocky mountains and woods. Spooky and beautiful at the same time. The gentleman nearly jumped into my arms when he saw me. He told me about all the frightening things that were happening on this car park when he was waiting and he really wanted to get away from there. When it got dark some strange people were coming to the car park, cars were coming and going, some guy on motorbike was trying to “get friendly” with him, I am not surprised he was at his wits end.
I took all my equipment into the car and… well I froze. I saw a screwdriver sticking out of the card reader. I asked him why he put it there and he explained that he was afraid that he will run out of battery and that he was told that if he will stick a screwdriver into the card reader he will have power to charge his phone. I was close to tears when he told me that, needless to say that by sticking anything into your card reader you can damage it forever, but what’s worse you can make the on board computer go nuts. Unfortunately this Renault Espace didn’t enjoy having things out into its card reader and the on board computer went absolutely crazy. The dashboard wasn’t turning on, the on board computer went into sleep mode and didn’t wanted to store a new Renault Espace key card, it was a pure nightmare. After around 20 minutes of working my magic I managed to reset the on board computer and programme a new Renault Espace key card. My customer was over the moon, jumping for joy and even tried to kiss my partner haha
Unfortunately by sticking a screw driver into the key card reader he damaged the reader so I recommended him exchanging it for a new one, I have explained where he can get a new or used card reader and how to install it.
So today’s story with a creepy twist ends with laughter and relief and this is why we do it. We know all too well how important it is to have a working car and being able to use it. We know the feeling of losing your keys and being stranded away from home.
