Renault Key Card Reader
We have already wrote about the issues with Renault Megane and Renault Scenic key card readers, but we thought it would be a good idea to summarise the problem one more time. Key card reader are fragile components and should be treated with care.
We are aware that there are many so called life hacks available on the Internet which seem to be helping at desperate times when your Renault Megane key card stops working. One of them is jamming a knife or a fork into the card reader with your key card. This trick works only for a short time and can cause damage to your card reader and on board computer. This trick works only because when you are inserting your key card into the reader with a piece of cutlery, the knife or fork tightens the key card and presses the coil inside to the matrix allowing it to connect with on board computer and start the car.
We have been recently called out to Cirencester to supply and programme a new key card for Renault Scenic. When we arrived embarrassed owner of the car before letting us into the car explained that he tried to fix the problem by himself using the advice available on the web. Have a look at the pictures which were made today which show how jamming a knife can end up… Fortunately we were able to fix the key card reader and programme a new key card. You need to be aware of the fact that if your key card reader is not working, programming a new key card will be impossible.
When attending a booking we usually carry replacement card readers with us but it is very important to let us know when booking an appointment if you suspect that your card reader is faulty or if you know you have been sticking things in it that should not be there…
Going back to our story, after exchanging the card reader in Renault Scenic we were able to programme a new key card and we made another customer happy. I know I am repeating myself but it is crucial. Please don’t put anything into your key car reader, anything apart your key card that is. We are aware that a replacement Renault Scenic key card may seem expensive and you may be tempted to try other ways but in the end those life hacks may cost you much more than a replacement Renault Scenic key card.
