Hands free or keyless Renault key cards
The majority or Renault manufactured after 2009 have a new type of a key card. There is no longer any distinction between Renault Megane key cards and for example Renault Laguna key cards. There are however two variations of those key cards, some are just a regular key cards which you need to put into the reader to start the car and you need to press the buttons to unlock or lock your car and so called hands free key cards, which will unlock your car if you are in close proximity to it and will start the car without the need of placing them in the card reader.
Sometimes finding out what type of key card is required by our customers can be challenging. As an example we can share a story of one of our customers. He called us asking for a replacement Renault Scenic key card as he lost his, his Renault was a 2011 Scenic so one of our agents asked if the card was a hands free key card or a regular. The gentleman replied that it is a hands free option. We have agreed on the price and booked a visit. One of our teams who attended at his home address programmed a new key card swiftly but had issues with keyless feature to work properly. The card was working absolutely fine when placed in the reader but when they tried to start the car without the card in the reader they were receiving an error message saying “card not detected”. They have run a series of test which all went well and assumed that the key card they programmed was faulty. So naturally they have programmed another card wanting to deliver the promised service. Sadly the second key card was acting the same way. Without any other options they have explained to the car owner what was going on and asked if he ever had this problem and if he is certain that the lost card was a hands free key car. The gentleman replied yes, I have hands free system so I can chat on my mobile while driving. Imagine our guys faces when they heard it. After 45 minutes of struggling with the cards which were not meant to work anyway as the car was not equipped with hands free key card option.
So after we had our laugh, bear in mind that when we ask extensive questions it is not because we don’t know what we are doing but because we want to deliver the best service possible and programme a correct type of key card to match your Renault.
Keyless entry key cards are becoming more and more popular in newer Renault models. So if you are on a look out for a new Renault Megane or new Renault Laguna be sure that you find out first what type of key card they use. Hands free key cards are very useful and easy to handle, you can keep it in your purse or bag without the need of taking it out to unlock the car or to start it up. When the key card is safely stored in your bag it is protected from being dropped on the floor or from loosing it.
